ZAGREB, Sept 5 (Hina) - The largest sea battle of the middle ages
which took place near the island of Korcula (south Adriatic) will be
re-played from September 5 to 18, marking the 700th anniversary of
this historic conflict.
The event will be organised by the international Marko polo centre
with the local Tourist association.
Visitors of the island will participate in many cultural events and
witness the re-enacting of the battle.
The battle took place between Genoa and Venice during which
explorer Marko Polo was captured.
Two hundred people, including actors and pyrotechnists will be
wearing costumes from the period and participating in the event.
Some 1,500 participants and visitors are expected to attend.
The project was assisted by the Council of Europe, The Baudouin Fund
and the Save Dalmatian Fund.
