ZAGREB, Aug 11 (Hina) - Just released official government
statistics show that Croatia had 13 per cent more tourists in June
than during the same month last year.
The State Bureau of Statistics said Croatia had 673,509 tourists in
June, with foreigners comprising 520,539 of tourists which was 17
per cent more than in 1997.
Overnight stays totalled 3.57 million nights, recording a 21 per
cent increase.
Included in this figure are the 3.1 million overnight stays by
foreign tourists, which was an impressive 25 per cent increase.
Most of the foreigners arriving in Croatia in June were Czechs, but
the figure of 95,849 was 20 per cent lower than the same month last
year.
They were followed by Germans (93,472 or 58 per cent more) and
Slovenes (80,162 or 30 per cent more).
However, Germans realised the most number of overnight stays,
894,440 or a huge 68 per cent increase.
Czechs recorded 598,671 overnight stays (14 per cent less) and
Austrians 395,873 (31 per cent more).
The number of domestic guests in June was 152,970, which was only 2
per cent more than for the same month last year. They realised
477,730 overnight stays which was the same figure as last year.
