KOSOVO PAPERS REPORT ABOUT MASSACRE IN ORAHOVAC

( Editorial: --> 1911 ) PRISTINA, Aug 5 (Hina) - The bodies of several dozens Albanians killed by Serbian forces in Orahovac between July 17 and 20 are supposed to be buried near a rubbish dump site not far from the town's cemetery, Pristina-based daily paper Koha Ditore reported on Wednesday. Thirty-six tomb inscriptions may be counted at that site, the paper wrote. Each bears the capital "T", followed by a four figure number. Some inscriptions contain Albanian names, while other carry only numbers. According to Koha Ditore, the number of the inscriptions should be higher, as it could clearly be seen that a bulldozer had been driven over the grounds on the dump site and that many inscriptions were broken. Quoting unnamed witnesses, the paper wrote that the bodies of the killed Albanians had been buried at the dump site an hour before the arrival of foreign reporters. The ground was levelled with a bulldozer. According to the Kosovo Human Rights and Freedoms Watch, 60 Albanians were killed in the Orahovac area, 50km south-west of Kosovo capital Pristina, in battles fought between July 17 and 20. Koha Ditore, quoting witnesses and estimates on persons gone missing during those battles, estimates the number of killed people in the Orahovac area reaches 200. Another Pristina-based daily in Albanian, Bujku, quoted Erik Rotfelder, a reporter for Berlin's Tageszeitung, who visited Orahovac on Tuesday. A witness told him 560 had been killed, including some 400 women and children. Allegedly, the killed were not buried only around Orahovac, but were transported aboard tractors in an unknown direction, Bujku wrote. (hina) ha 051736 MET aug 98
