SISAK, July 30 (Hina) - The first group of 26 Serbs returned from
Yugoslavia to the Dvor area of the Una River on Thursday.
They returned in line with the Programme for the Return of Displaced
Persons and Refugees recently adopted by the Croatian National
Parliament.
The return was organised by the UN High Commissioner for Refugees
(UNHCR) and the Croatian Government Office for Displaced Persons
and Refugees.
The Serb returnees told reporters they were glad to return to their
homes and homeland after three years of living in very difficult
conditions in Serbia.
They expressed hope they would again live in peace, and thanked
representatives of the international community and Croatian
authorities for enabling them to return to their homes.
Head of the Office for Displaced Persons and Refugees, Lovre
Pejkovic, stressed that 42,615 Serbs have so far returned from the
Croatian Danube River region, FR Yugoslavia and Bosnia-
Herzegovina, out of which 21,125 from the Danubian area.
