ZAGREB, July 29 (Hina) - Montserrat Caballe, one of the most famous
divas in world opera, will hold a charity concert in the south
Croatian port of Dubrovnik on September 1.
The earnings will go for the restoration of Knezev Dvor Castle, a
monument of world heritage which is also listed with the UNESCO. It
was once the seat of the prince of Dubrovnik and is now a museum.
The concert is organised by the Dubrovnik city authorities.
An ambassador of good will with the UNESCO and the UNICEF, Caballe
offered her assistance for the reconstruction of Dubrovnik's
cultural heritage, which perished in the Serbian aggression on
Croatia, during a concert she held in Zagreb last year.
Caballe performed in the Knezev Dvor's atrium, which has 1,200
seats, twice, in 1988 and in 1990.
The restoration of the castle's roof requires DM120,000. Apart from
ticket earnings, individual donations will also be accepted.
Caballe will perform with her daughter Montserrat Marti, conductor
Jose Collado and the Dubrovnik Symphonic Orchestra.
Croatian diva Ruza Pospis-Baldani has been announced as Caballe's
personal guest.
The concert will feature arias and duets from Puccini, Verdi,
Bizet, Gimenez, Delibes, Massent and others.
Tickets will be US$47 a piece.
