ZAGREB, June 30 (Hina) - Soul, rock and pop legend Joe Cocker and the
"Father of British Blues" John Mayall were farewelled off the stage
with ovations from the audience at Monday night's concert in the
Zagreb Sports Hall.
Despite the heat, the diverse audience filled the auditorium and
joined Cocker - "the only white man with a black voice" - in singing
the words to the songs covering all phases of his 30-year career.
These ranged from John Lennon and Paul McCartney's hippie hymn
"With a Little Help from My Friends", through the '80s megahits "You
Can Leave Your Hat On" and "Unchain My Heart" and to the newer
melodies of his recently launched album "Across From Midnight".
Despite being grey and bald on the threshold of his late years,
Cocker shows amazing vitality and his characteristic "broken"
dance movements always provoke attention.
The audience equally enthusiastically welcomed the introduction to
Cocker's two-hour display of musicianship, a performance by
another great veteran, John Mayall and his Bluesbreakers.
