ZAGREB, July 29 (Hina) - The County Court in Zagreb on Wednesday
launched an investigation against Esperanza (Nada) Sakic, who was
an official in a Croatian concentration camp between 1942 and
1945.
Given that the suspect Sakic lives in Argentina, a decision on the
investigation was submitted to the Croatian Ministry of Justice,
which made an extradition request.
The investigating judge of the Zagreb County Court decided to
launch an investigation against the suspected Esperanza Tambic de
Bilanovic Sakic on the basis of a request of the Zagreb County's
state attorney's office, a County Court statement said on
Wednesday.
The investigation comes in the wake of founded suspicion that as a
member of Ustasha units and an Ustasha official in the Stara
Gradiska concentration camp between October 19, 1942 and early
1945, Nada Sakic breached the international law by torturing and
inhumanely treating civilians, and by applying measures of
intimidation and terror as well as collective punishment of
civilians.
According to the statement, detention has been determined for Nada
Sakic. She will be given a court-appointed lawyer until she chooses
one.
Esperanza Sakic is the wife of Dinko Sakic, commander of another
World War Two concentration camp, in Jasenovac, against whom an
investigation is currently in course at the Zagreb County Court.
Argentina extradited Dinko Sakic to Croatia in mid-June.
