WE'D LIKE NADA SAKIC TO BE TRIED IN CROATIA - SAYS HEAD OF SWC

( Editorial: --> 9914 ) ZAGREB, July 26 (Hina) - We are glad our direct actions have been fruitful, the director of the Simon Wiesenthal Centre (SWC) in Jerusalem Erfaim Zuroff told Hina on Sunday commenting the arrest of Nada Sakic. During his recent stay in Zagreb Zuroff handed Croatian Deputy Justice Minister Snjezana Bagic documents concerning Nada Sakic, he told Hina, adding he was pleased Croatia had initiated proceedings for Sakic's extradition. The Croatian Justice Ministry yesterday stated it would request Nada's extradition. Zuroff said his aim was to have war criminals tried for their crimes. The SWC is always glad if the criminals are tried in the country where the crimes were committed, he explained, adding the SWC would support the extradition of Nada Sakic to Croatia and not to Yugoslavia. Yugoslavia already made an official request to Argentina for Sakic's extradition. We would like Nada Sakic to be tried in Croatia on condition that it be a fair trial, Zuroff said, adding so far there was no reason to doubt that. He also said the SWC was satisfied with Croatia's performance and reaction in the Dinko Sakic case. The wife of Dinko Sakic, the recently extradited commander of a World War Two Croatian concentration camp in Jasenovac, Nada Sakic was arrested on Thursday in Santa Teresita, an Argentinean summer resort near Buenos Aires. Nada Sakic is accused of being a member of Ustasha units in WW2 Croatia who was responsible for the death of a high but as yet undetermined number of female prisoners in a Croatian concentration camp in Stara Gradiska between late 1942 and 1945.
