ZAGREB, July 16 (Hina) - Interior Minister Ivan Penic on Thursday
received a group of Croatian police officers who had taken part in
security for the football World Cup in France.
Apart from French police, the France '98 security system included
police officers from countries taking part in the event as part of
measures for football fans.
The Croatian police group monitored and surveyed the behaviour of
Croatian fans during the country's matches in Lens, Nantes,
Bordeaux, Lyon and Paris.
The leader of the seven-member group, Croatian Interior Ministry
operational duties head Marijan Tomorad, told Minister Penic that
during the championship there had been some recorded incidents
involving individual Croatian fans.
But overall their behaviour outside the stadiums and during the
matches was "fantastic", Tomorad said.
Penic thanked the police officers for their work and recalled they
had a responsibility both to help French police and Croatian fans in
trouble.
He said that the Croatian police group had been praised by their
French colleagues as one of the best.
