PRISTINA, July 3 (Hina) - Local human rights workers have reported
heavy Serbian police forces began attacks this morning in the area
near Kijevo, a village located on a vital road 40km west of the
provincial capital Pristina.
A police station and several hundred Serb civilians in the Kijevo
region have been surrounded for more than a month by the Kosovo
Liberation Army (KLA).
Albanian sources said today's action by Serbian forces was part of a
wider operation attempting to lift the blockade of the Pristina-Pec
road. Traffic has been totally interrupted on the road for more than
seven weeks.
Two days ago Serbian authorities announced possible operations to
lift the blockade of the Pristina-Pec road and the village of
Kijevo.
