LISBON, June 6 (Hina) - Croatian President Franjo Tudjman ended the
first day of his visit to Portugal by attending Saturday evening two
exhibitions presenting Croatia as part of the 100 Days Festival,
which opened 100 days before the beginning of the Expo 98 world
exhibition.
An exhibition of Roman glass in Croats, which includes exhibits
from 15 Croatian museums of archaeological monuments, has been on
display at Lisbon's National Museum of Archaeology since April 16.
Closing September 30, the exhibition was staged under the joint
patronage of President Tudjman, Italian President Oscar Luigi
Scalfaro and Portuguese President Jorge Sampaio.
An exhibition of Croatian maritime tradition, presenting paintings
of Croatian historical ships, is on display at the museum of sacral
art in Alcochete. It closes August 2.
Before reaching Alcochete, the Croatian President visited a
monument to geographical discoveries in Belem, in the company of
his wife and members of the Croatian delegation. The monument was
erected 1960 at the spot whence Vasco De Gama departed for the
famous trip to India.
President Tudjman also visited the oldest fort in Lisbon, the Sao
Jorge, which offers a panoramic view of the entire city.
The visit continues tomorrow, when the Croatian delegation will
attend the marking of Croatia's national day at the Expo 98 world
exhibition, dedicated to seas and oceans.
