DUBROVNIK, June 6 (Hina) - The United States Ambassador to Croatia
William Montgomery Saturday visited the southern Croatian port of
Dubrovnik where the U.S. frigate USS Kauffman is staying.
Accompanied by ship commander George Karol, the Ambassador visited
the "Ronald Brown" memorial house, in honour of the late U.S.
Secretary of Commerce, who was killed in a plane crash near
Dubrovnik in April 1996.
There exist very strong relations between the Croatian and American
armies, Montgomery told reporters.
The USS Kauffman frigate's visit to Dubrovnik is testimony to that
and is important as it shows we want to cooperate with Croatia and be
its partner, he added.
The visit to the memorial house shows that the U.S. has given a lot
for peace in this region, as evidenced by American citizens who gave
their lives for stability in the region, the Ambassador said.
