CROATIAN GOVT. QUESTION EMIGRATION OF CROATS FROM KNIN DISTRICT

( Editorial: --> 8277 ) ZAGREB, June 2 (Hina) - The Croatian Government is as concerned as the Croatian Parliament House of Counties members regarding Croats emigrating from the Knin district, (southern Croatia) organised by some international organisations. The Government has given the task to interior and foreign ministries to investigate this situation from the view-point of national security and internal politics, and to prepare necessary measures, said Premier Zlatko Matesa at Parliamentary question time on Tuesday. Answering questions regarding provision for Croat refugees from Bosnia-Herzegovina, Reconstruction and Development Minister, Jure Radic, said in Croatia there are between 90,000 to 95,000 Croats displaced from Serbia and Bosnia. It is the government's basic principle to enable and assist all refugees to return to their homes if possible, and to assist those that can not return, to stay in Croatia, added Radic. Not one person who has a provision resolution from the Reconstruction and Development Ministry can receive an order to leave without ensured accommodation, Radic said, and requested concrete evidence of breaches of the principles. The government has purchased about 1,200 apartments and houses from Serbs not returning to Croatia in which the displaced persons could be accommodated. The Croatian Government will pay between 16,000 and 30,000 US dollars to the Joint Council of Municipalities (with Serb majority) in the Croatian Danube River Region this year, within the framework of financing the peaceful reintegration and the trust establishment programmes, said Deputy Premier Ljerka Mintas- Hodak.
