CAKOVEC, May 31 (Hina) - A traditional commemorative ceremony for
Medjimurje Jews - victims of the Holocaust - was held at the Jewish
cemetery in Cakovec on Sunday.
There were only 80 survivors of more than 600 Jews who were deported
from Cakovec and the Medjimurje region at the end of May 1944 to the
infamous Auschwitz concentration camp, Djordje Pal said on behalf
of the Jewish community in Cakovec.
The ceremony was attended by Ognjen Kraus, president of the
Coordination of Jewish Communities in Croatia, Jews from Cakovec
and Medjimurje, representatives of other religious communities and
the Association of Anti-Fascist Fighters, Administration Minister
Marijan Ramuscak and Madjimurje county officials.
A remembrance prayer was said by Vlado Hur of the Zagreb Jewish
Community.
