VUKOVAR, May 6 (Hina) - International Federation of the Red Cross
and Red Crescent president Astrid Heiberg on Wednesday visited the
eastern Croatian city of Vukovar, where she met the leaders of the
Croatian Red Cross and local Red Cross offices.
I wanted to see for myself what was going on in one of the most war-
damaged places in the world and see how one can help, Heiberg said.
Vukovar Red Cross secretary Ivan Lasovic said that about 800 Croat
displaced had returned to the Vukovar region and about 300 to the
city itself.
The Vukovar Red Cross has trained 120 home care volunteers who are
caring for 1,200 persons.
Heiberg also visited the Vukovar New Cemetery where the exhumation
and identification of victims of the Serbian aggression is under
way.
