ZAGREB, 5 May (Hina)- By its impartiality and objectiveness in
accommodation of people during the past seven years, the Croatian
Red Cross set an excellent example for other national Red Cross
organisations, said Dr Astrid Heiberg, President of the
International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent on
Tuesday in Zagreb.
During her first visit to a IFRC member since she assumed her duty,
Dr Heiberg visited Glina today.
After the military operations Storm and Flash, more than 10,000
elderly and abandoned persons received aid within the framework of
the drive, "Let's Save the Lives".
Croatian Red Cross President, Jadranko Crnic, thanked the IFRC for
its abundant assistance. Without that assistance, suffering of
Croatia's people during the war would have been even worse, he
said.
Dr Astrid Heiberg is also President of the Norwegian Red Cross, one
of the main donors to Croatia and other countries in this region.
