KNEZEVI VINOGRADI, May 6 (Hina) - Out of the 460 families displaced
from the Baranja municipality of Knezevi Vinogradi (eastern
Croatia), 194 have returned by May 1.
More are expected to return after the end of the school year,
municipal head Kresimir Kramaric said on Wednesday.
According to Kramaric, 157 empty buildings which needed to be
renewed or reconstructed have been registered in the
municipality.
Around 20 buildings have been reconstructed so far, some thirty
houses are being reconstructed, but municipal authorities are
dissatisfied with the speed in which the houses are being
reconstructed, Kramaric said.
One of the problems of return is that returning are mostly elderly
people, while the return of younger and middle-aged people is
proceeding slowly.
According to information of the municipal authorities, there were
68 Serb families who have moved to the municipality, 30 of whom were
waiting to return to their homes in other parts of Croatia, and the
same number was waiting for compensation for their property from
the Croatian Agency for Facilitating Real Estate Transactions.
