HIGH INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY OFFICIALS VISIT DRVAR

( Editorial: --> 0906 ) DRVAR, May 1 (Hina) - A high military and civil delegation of the international community Friday visited the western Bosnian town of Drvar. Headed by NATO commander in Europe General Wesley Clark and the international community High Representative in Bosnia Carlos Westendorp, the delegation held talks with representatives of Hercegbosanska Canton, and Drvar's municipal, civil and military authorities. We have come to Drvar to assess the situation following last week's incidents and to see to it that such things do not repeat in the future, Westendorp told reporters. Last week Croats in Drvar burnt down some buildings including the headquarters of the municipality and the International Police Task Force. The international community is resolute in implementing the Dayton peace agreement's Annexe VII, which refers to the return of refugees and displaced persons to their pre-war homes, the high representative emphasised. He said he would come to Drvar next week again, when international community measures for Drvar will be made known. Authorities on all levels are responsible for last week's incidents in Drvar, Westendorp said. All officials acting contrary to Dayton regulations will be adequately punished, he pointed out. After seeing for myself what took place in Drvar last week, I can say I am proud of the international stabilisation force, NATO General Clark told reporters. The biggest responsibility for last week's events lies with municipal authorities which must enable all persons who wish to return to do so, he pointed out. Clark believed the establishment of a multiethnic police in Hercegbosanska Canton was crucial for realising the right to return in line with the Dayton peace agreement. The international community delegation was accompanied by NATO-led Stabilisation Force commander General Eric Shinseki, and Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe mission in Bosnia head Robert Barry.
