ZAGREB, April 9 (Hina) - At a rally held in Zagreb over 500 educators
on Thursday once again demanded from the Croatian government a
raise in salaries in primary and secondary schools, payment of
allowances as stated in collective agreements, and the opening of a
discussion on education at the Croatian National Parliament.
The one-hour protest ended peacefully.
It was organised by the two largest school unions - the Union of
Croatian Teachers and the Independent Union of Employed in Croatian
High Schools.
After the rally, representatives of the unions met with Croatian
Prime Minister Zlatko Matesa at his invitation. They agreed that
they would jointly attempt to resolve the issue of educators'
salaries by 20 April.
