ZAGREB, March 10 (Hina) - Road safety in Croatia was satisfactory
last year, the Croatian Council for Road Safety said at Tuesday's
meeting.
The number of killed and injured in traffic accidents was less last
year. The number of children being victims of accidents also
decreased.
The Interior Ministry however cautions that one out of five car
accident victims was between the age of 18 and 24 and that alcohol
and high speeds are still the biggest causes of traffic accidents.
On average 169 traffic accidents occur daily in Croatia. Of these
accidents two people die and 44 of them are either lightly or
seriously injured.
The Ministry asserts that better roads, higher degree of road-fit
vehicles and public campaigns on the behaviour of road sharers give
more satisfactory results.
