ALBANIAN DOCTORS PROTEST AGAINST BLOODSHED IN KOSOVO

( Editorial: --> 7937 ) PRISTINA, March 7 (Hina) - The Serbian police on Saturday continued operations in Donji Prekaz, Srbica municipality, about 50km west of Pristina. The situation in Donji Prekaz is alarming, a high official of the Kosovo Democratic Alliance, Regjep Gjergji, said today. According to the Kosovo Information Centre, more than 50 Kosovo Albanians were killed in the latest operation of the Serbian police. About 500 Albanian doctors and other health workers gathered tonight in front of the American Information Centre in Pristina, protesting against the bloodshed and slaughter of unprotected ethnic Albanians in Drenica. The protesters asked that a humanitarian corridor towards Drenica be opened so that doctors and other medical staff could visit the village and help the wounded. The director of the American Information Centre, Richard Huckby, received a delegation of Albanian doctors tonight. The US government was following the latest developments in Kosovo with concern, Huckby said, adding he would inform his government about the requests of the Albanian doctors. He also called on the Serbian authorities to allow medical workers give help to the wounded in Drenica. The US embassy in Belgrade also called for an international investigation into the events in Drenica, Huckby said. The Kosovo Democratic Forum today formed a crisis headquarters which is to follow the security situation in the region. (hina) rm 072127 MET mar 98
