SITUATION IN E. CROATIA IS ALARMING - SDSS EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

( Editorial: --> 6132 ) VUKOVAR, Mar 2 (Hina) - The executive committee of the Serb Democratic Independent Party (SDSS) Monday held a meeting in Vukovar, eastern Croatia, and assessed the Croatian Government is not complying with commitments from the Erdut agreement on the peaceful reintegration of eastern Croatia or from Dayton documents either. The situation in the Danube river region was assessed as "extremely alarming", the security situation was said to be deteriorating while the situation in other fields of living in the area was not improving. In a letter forwarded to Croatian President Franjo Tudjman, and presented to the media, the SDSS executive committee mentioned the "holding of promotions of the Croatian Party of Rights (HSP) with pro-fascist contents" in Beli Manastir and Vukovar. It was said a HSP promotion was also prepared to be held in Knin, where a certain number of Serbs recently returned. The president of the National Trust Establishment Committee, Vesna Skare-Ozbolt, was accused of "being biased in the implementation of the programme on trust establishment." The SDSS executive committee said Tudjman's speech at the fourth general convention of the ruling Croatian Democratic Union "additionally unsettled both Serbs and the international public". The committee asked whether this should be understood as a "final decision" that the Serbs' status in Croatia would not be settled at all. Asked about the said letter to the Croatian President, SDSS president and member of the party's main committee Vojislav Stanimirovic said Monday evening that the SDSS main committee had not debated on the mentioned issues.
