ZAGREB, Feb 24 (Hina) - On Tuesday, after their meeting with
President Tudjman, representatives of the international community
in BH,Jacques Paul Klein, Deputy High Representative, Elisabeth
Rehn, UN Undersecretary, and Robert Berry, head of the OCE mission
in BH, convened a press briefing at the US embassy, where they
reported on their talks with the President.
Eliabeth Rehn pointed out that Federation BH should have already
seen the introduction of an ethnically mixed police force.
"Unfortunatelly, we are facing problems, especially in Croat areas
in western Herzegovina and in Tomislavgrad, where the police still
uses absolutely unacceptable insignia", said Rehn. She added the
international community was also pressurizing the Bosniacs in
areas where they were not meeting their obligations.
Speaking about the return of refugees, Elisabeth Rehn stressed she
was "happy that President Tudjman told us he was taking those
problems very seriously".
Klein said that BH could not function without the Croat population
and that he took to heart the Croat's grievances regarding their
traditions, religion, language and culture. However, stressed
Klein, the international community needs a Croat leadership that
will co-operate with it in a constructive manner.
For the past four months I have been trying to open the Mostar
airpport for traffic, but the Croat leadership is not ready for co-
operation and a compromise, contrary to the interests of the Croat
population, the economy and pilgrims, stressed Klein. He expresed
hope that the President would help in resolution of those
problems.
Head of the OSCE mission Robert Barry said that as far as he was
concerned, "the main problem is that it has not been possible to
implement the results of the municipal election of 1997". He
stressed that the Dayton Accords could not be fully implemented
without the implementation of the election results.
