ACCOMMODATION SECURED FOR WAR CRIMES SUSPECTS IN HAGUE - IVANKO

( Editorial: --> 2270 ) SARAJEVO, Feb 16 (Hina) - International representatives in Bosnia- Herzegovina have welcomed the voluntary surrender of two Bosnian Serbs indicted for war crimes and called on others to follow their example. The Office of the High Representative in Bosnia-Herzegovina hopes that this is a precedent which will prompt other suspects to do the same, Westendorp's spokesman Simon Haselock said in Sarajevo Monday. UN spokesman in Sarajevo Alexander Ivanko recalled that 22 suspects have so far surrendered or been brought before the International Criminal Tribunal for former Yugoslavia (ICTY). The detention centre of The Hague Tribunal has one trial chamber and 24 prison cells. The indicted need not worry about this since it has already been agreed on that adequate accommodation would be found should all of them surrender in the meantime, Ivanko said. Several Western countries have already secured money for the construction of a new trial chamber which will be used by the ICTY. (hina) jn rm mb 161753 MET feb 98
