SARAJEVO, Feb 6 (Hina) - The head of the UN mission in Bosnia-
Herzegovina Elizabeth Rehn Friday told reporters in Sarajevo she
hoped all accused of war crimes will this year be surrendered or
surrender themselves to the International Criminal Tribunal for
the Former Yugoslavia in The Hague.
The international community expects the new government of the
Bosnian Serb entity to urgently ensure the surrender of war crimes
suspects, Rehn said.
She made special mention of former Bosnian Serb leader Radovan
Karadzic and General Ratko Mladic as the two who must appear before
the tribunal as soon as possible.
The best would be for the new Bosnian Serb government to show
determination and turn over the suspects, Rehn said, adding there
were other ways were that not to occur.
The head of the UN mission warned that Bosnian Serb authorities were
still insufficiently willing to ensure the return of minority
ethnic groups.
She mentioned the unwillingness of Bosnian Serb President Biljana
Plavsic to agree to the holding of a special conference on the
return of Croats and Bosniaks to Banja Luka.
Rehn assessed the restructuring of civil police in both Bosnian
entities would remain one of the principal tasks until the end of
the year, but recalled that would not give wanted results without a
reform of the judiciary.
