ZAGREB, Dec 30 (Hina) - The coalition comprising the Croatian
Peasants' Party, the Liberal Party, the Croatian People's Party
(HNS), the Istrian Democratic Assembly, and the Social Democratic
Action of Croatia (ASH) on Thursday held its final pre-electoral
rally in Zagreb.
HNS president Radimir Cacic said his party firmly stood by its
promise to offer 200,000 new jobs, despite criticism that the
promise was unrealistic.
He asserted that after the January 3 parliamentary elections, "the
coalition won't allow anybody's arrogant majority to once again
govern Croatia." The parties which will make the new, coalition
government will correct each other, Cacic added.
ASH president Silvije Degen said the time of the rule of the
Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) was over, and said he was sure the
coalition list would win more votes than others in the first
constituency.
"In three days, the end of wrong politics in Croatia will begin,"
said Stipe Mesic of the HNS. He reproached the HDZ for "taking the
capital they did not make and getting into an unnecessary war."
Mesic called on voters to cast their ballot for the coalition,
telling them it was necessary to turn a new page in Croatia's
history and politics.
