ZAGREB, Dec 30 (Hina) - Croatia's National Electoral Commission has so far received no complete candidature for the coming presidential election, although there was "inflation" of announcements of possible candidates. The coalition of

ZAGREB, Dec 30 (Hina) - Croatia's National Electoral Commission has
so far received no complete candidature for the coming presidential
election, although there was "inflation" of announcements of
possible candidates.
The coalition of the HSLS and SDP announced the submission of Drazen
Budisa's candidacy for tomorrow, said a Deputy President of the
Commission, Jakob Miletic.
Miletic stressed that each voter can give his/her signature only
for one candidacy.
During the previous presidential elections, candidates of major
parties had a few thousand more signatures than necessary and it was
no problem if a few voters signed two candidacies, he explained.
If there should be contentious signatures this time, we shall check
voters-signatories one by one via their personal identification
numbers (the so-called JMBG). It will be an onerous task, but we are
here to do it, said the Commission's official.
Speaking of the parliamentary elections, Miletic said ballots were
dispatched to the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia on Thursday.
Yesterday, the Commission, after the consent of Yugoslav
authorities, decided to allow the organisation of the Croatian
parliamentary elections in Belgrade, Subotica and Kotor.
As the voting will start abroad a day before than in Croatia (i.e on
January 2), the ban on electioneering for other countries will
begin at the very first minutes of 2000. Miletic held that there was
no reason that this ban on electioneering should be applied in
Croatia on New Year's Day. We cannot regard it as a breach if certain
(Croatia) media are watched or listened to abroad on that day,
Miletic explained.
The Commission annulled its amendments to the Memorandum on the
Work of Voters' Committees after the Constitutional Court on
Wednesday annulled an instruction from that amendment according to
which all authorised persons can obtain minutes on the work of a
voters' committee only from an authorised electoral commission.
The Court believes the instruction was contrary to the Election Law
because it excludes the possibility of exercising rights
immediately at a polling station. After this move, each member and a
deputy member of the electoral committee will be able to receive a
copy of the minutes immediately upon its compilation and signing at
the polling station.
