ZAGREB, Dec 26 (Hina) - A skier, Janica Kostelic, was proclaimed the best Croatian sportswoman in 1999, according to the polls conducted by the only Croatian sports daily "Sportske Novosti" (SN).

best Croatian sportswoman in 1999, according to the polls conducted

The best sportsman for this year is a swimmer, Gordan Kozulj.
This year, 483 reporters from 82 editorial boards chose best
athletes in Croatia.
Janica Kostelic was proclaimed the best female athlete for the
second consecutive year. In 1999 she won 309 votes and was followed
by Barbara Jelic, a volleyball player with 146 votes. The third best
female athlete of Croatia in 1999 was Tamara Boros, a table tennis
player who got 13 votes.
Gordan Kozulj won 183 votes and thus became the best sportsman in
Croatia for this year. The second best athlete is also a swimmer,
Milos Milosevic with 126 votes. A racing driver, Niko Pulic was on
the third place with 103 votes.
The best female team was Croatia's national volleyball team with
even 459 votes. 216 reports thought that the best male team was
Croatia's national waterpolo team.
The ceremony for proclaiming best athletes in 1999 was held in
Zagreb on Sunday, under the sponsorship of the Croatian Olympic
Committee.
Present at the ceremony were many athletes, sports officials,
public figures and celebrities.
At the event the award for fair play " Fair play Allianz Zagreb, dd -
SN" was given to the captain to Croatia's boccie team, Valter
Ivancic, for his conduct during the World Championships in Lyon.
