ZAGREB, Dec 16 (Hina) - In the first nine months of 1999, the
Croatian Agency for Guarantees (HGA) has given 363 guarantees
amounting to some 95 million kuna (about DM23.7 million) as well as
291 one-time grants amounting to 2.8 million kuna (some
DM700,000).
The guarantees and grants have helped create 790 new jobs and
supported 117 family farms, it was said at Thursday's session of the
Croatian Government, which adopted a report on the work of the HGA.
Since its establishment in 1995, the HGA has issued 1,938
guarantees amounting to some 340 million kuna (DM85 million), HGA
director Zdravko Muraj said.
Muraj stressed that no guarantees had been issued in the first nine
months of 1999. There have been some changes in the structure of
granted guarantees also, he said, adding the number of guarantees
given in the first nine months of 1999 was smaller but their
individual value was higher.
Most of the guarantees were given to entrepreneurs and craftsmen,
whereas the number of guarantees to agriculture was decreasing,
although agriculture remains the branch which received the largest
number of guarantees. Counties with the largest number of
guarantees are Split-Dalmatia, Slavonski Brod-Posavina, and the
City of Zagreb, Muraj said.
The Government approved changes to five Agency programmes,
including those aimed at stimulating small-sized entrepreneurship
and businesses in the areas of special government concern.
The session, which was chaired by Finance Minister Borislav Skegro,
also adopted a regulation on the implementation of the Customs
Law.
The Government today also okayed the signing of a contract
regarding a Japanese deed of gift for preparing the project of
modernisation of the Rijeka port. A Japanese government trust will
grant US$337,500 for that purpose, whereas the modernisation
programme would be financed through a World Bank loan.
