ZAGREB, Dec 13 (Hina) - All Croatian archbishops, bishops, as well
as the Apostolic Nuncio in Croatia, Giulio Einaudi, headed by
Zagreb's Archbishop and the President of the Croatian Bishops'
Conference, Josip Bozanic, attended the funeral of Croatian
President Franjo Tudjman Monday.
The funeral ceremony was conducted by Archbishop Bozanic, and
assisted by Rijeka-Senj Archbishop Antun Tamarut and Split-
Makarska Archbishop Ante Juric.
Bozanic said that President Franjo Tudjman will enter into history
of Croatia's statehood as one of the great architects. His name has
been embedded in great events in Europe in late 1989 and early 1990,
and everything that followed after that.
For everything good he has done alone and together with all of us, we
would like to express our gratitude and let the almighty and
merciful God be his reward. The first president of the
reconstructed Croatian State is leaving. On the one hand he is
becoming a part of history and on the other, a part of eternity. But
Croatia has been bequeathed to all of us, as God's gift and
obligation, Bozanic said.
Bozanic stressed that Croatians had been able to express their
will. They expressed their orientation for independence and had
democratically built their state whose roots date back to the first
millennium. The Croatian state was created by the general public
will, from a thousand-year-old awareness of the Croatian nation
which, regardless of how much it had been suppressed, it never
died.
And in January of 1992, it was recognised by the international
community. In all of this, President Tudjman invested his greatest
efforts, gifts of mind and heart, deep patriot awareness, life
experience and his great knowledge of history and the determination
of a statesman.
Bozanic thanked God for all nine years of homeland Croatia.
At the end of his speech Bozanic thanked God for the last nine years
of the homeland of Croatia and for all good given by Tudjman while he
had served his homeland.
God save our beautiful homeland, Bozanic concluded.
