SPLIT, Dec 12 (Hina) - The Croatian Navy (HRM) on Sunday paid last
respects to its Supreme Commander Franjo Tudjman.
During the commemoration held in the port of Lora, Split, on Sunday
in honour of the deceased Croatian President Franjo Tudjman, a
speech of HRM Commander Vice-Admiral Vid Stipetic (who was absent)
was read out by Captain Zdenko Sincic who said it was difficult to
express how deeply Croatian navy officers were sorrowful.
"We have lost our Supreme Commander, the President of the Republic
of Croatia, the greatest personage in the recent history of
Croatia, a man who was the founder and first President of the
Republic of Croatia," read Sincic.
Speaking of the life and deeds of the first Croatian President
Sincic added that Tudjman, an anti-Fascist, quickly realised that
an ambience created after WW II had suppressed Croatians' national
interests and inclination to statehood.
On the grounds of Starcevic's and Radic's ideas and experience of
the Croatian lack of unity during the WW II, Tudjman defined
guidelines that brought about his victory at the first Croatian
elections, Sincic added.
Our President showed his greatness as a statesman and a strategist
commanding the armed forces of Croatia, he read.
"Let us not forget that Franjo Tudjman, our supreme commander,
entrusted us with the task to protect the Croatian Adriatic on Navy
Day 1993 and we have consistently been carrying out it," Sincic
added.
A commemorative session was held at the Academy of the Croatian Navy
in Split on Sunday as well.
A book of condolence was opened in the port of Lora which HRM members
can sign.
