ZAGREB, Dec 9 (Hina) - Presidents of six parties of the Croatian
Opposition on Thursday said that, as we were approaching elections,
Croatian Television (HTV) was increasingly moving away from public
television standards and was becoming the mouthpiece of the ruling
party, not only in the political part of the programme, put also in
documentary, entertainment, and cultural broadcast.
They demanded that HTV discontinue to advertise only one policy as
the national philosophy of life, to resist the use of HTV for
attacks on everything different from the ruling Croatian
Democratic Union's (HDZ) pre-electoral interest, and to enable the
equality in the approach for all democratic political interests and
ideas.
In their joint statement, the Opposition Six stressed that the HDZ,
via HTV, tried to impose an ideal picture of the situation as a
supplement for the difficult every day life which was the reality of
the majority of Croatian citizens, and that it tried to influence
people's emotions in order to cause the fear of changes.
Presidents of the Six Opposition parties believe that "the HDZ is
conducting a struggle against fictions", which are, according to
them, "the return of communists to power, Croatia's joining a
Balkan state association, and a conspiracy of foreign and interior
enemies against Croatia's independence".
Assessing that the Opposition Six is a democratic alternative, the
presidents said that the opposition parties "were against
political methods typical of totalitarianism of a one-party state,
which is promoted by the HDZ oligarchy".
