ZAGREB, Dec 9 (Hina) - The Croatian government on Thursday adopted
additional measures for the employment of five targeted groups of
unemployed persons.
According to National Employment Policy measures currently in
force, jobs have been provided so far for 47,100 persons at the cost
of US$21.1 million.
The additional measures adopted today refer to trainees in parts of
state administration bodies and public institutions, persons with
no working experience in crafts, women and men older than 45 and 50
with 20 and 25 years of service respectively, disabled persons, and
unemployed persons in poorly developed areas and in Vukovar, the
eastern Croatian town which suffered the most damage in the Serb
aggression earlier this decade.
The additional measures should subsidise their gross salaries for a
certain period of time.
For all groups stated above except the last one, funds will be
earmarked at the Croatian Employment Bureau, while funds from the
state budget will be earmarked for the employment of persons living
in poorly developed areas and in Vukovar.
The measures adopted today represent the first time that assistance
is being given for the employment of middle-aged and elderly
persons, who account for the highest expense at the Croatian
Employment Bureau due to their right to allowances until further
employment or pension.
The latter category includes a high number of Croatian citizens who
remained without jobs for a variety of reasons. According to Labour
and Social Welfare Minister Joso Skara, new jobs should help those
persons earn conditions necessary for pension.
The government today also adopted a small economy development
programme in which local self-government units will participate
besides bodies of state administration.
The government also endorsed a project for an international
statistics school in the southern port of Dubrovnik. The proposal
will be put forward to the economic task force of the Stability Pact
for Southeast Europe.
