AED PRESENTS 17 NON-GOVERNMENT ASSOCIATION COURSE MANAGERS

ZAGREB, Dec 3 (Hina) - The US-based Academy for Educational Development (AED) which has been active in Croatia since August 1998, on Friday presented 17 course managers for non-government organisations. All course managers are from Croatia and have completed AED's six-month training programme. Their tasks were presented at workshops intended for the heads of Croatian associations. The course managers' task is to direct the association leaders in various fields, media, cooperation with local government and self-government, planning and drafting of budgets. The course managers work through three Croatian associations: SMART, CARANEO and EOS. It is AEDs intention to leave Croatia after the three-year Programme 2001, the education programme chief, Ivana Laginja, said- The three-year programme is financed by the US Agency for International Development (USAID). The AED has so far delegated US$356,000 for seven project

It is AEDs intention to leave Croatia after the three-year Programme 2001, the education programme chief, Ivana Laginja, said- The three-year programme is financed by the US Agency for International Development (USAID). The AED has so far delegated US$356,000 for seven projects in environment protection, democratisation of the society, social status of women, development of small-scale businesses and social welfare. Funds are not allocated for programmes connected with elections or the promotion of political parties. Projects must correlate with the goals of the programme: to increase the influence of non-government organisations on the processes of adoption and implementing programmes of social development, promotion of citizens' responsibility for solving social problems and carrying out activities with other sectors and non-government organisations. Non-government, non-profit organisations can reply to a bid published by the AED for financial support in the amount of US$30,000 to 100,000. The deadline for registration is January 12, 2000.
