PLOMIN, Dec 2 (Hina) - Croatian Premier Zlatko Matesa on Thursday inaugurated the "Plomin 2" coal-fired thermal power plant in Plomin, a coastal town on the northern Adriatic peninsula of Istra. The 210mW-plant, on which construction
works began in 1985, is a joint project of Croatia's power utility company Hrvatska Elektroprivreda (HEP) and German company RWE Energie. Both companies invested DM250 million each in this, the biggest power-supply project in the last two decades. "Plomin 2" will use imported coal with a small percentage of sulphur. The plant has a desulfurisation system, which was built according to the strictest ecological criteria valid in the European Union, and the only of its kind in the entire Mediterranean.
