Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Pavletic said the talks
tackled primarily the peace-time reorganisation of the armed
forces and the reduction of military expenses so as to make the
power of the armed forces intact and increased as well as to make the
army ready to react to any possible danger. There are many problems,
especially the financial ones, but we stand an excellent chance of
solving them in line with the basic needs of the Croatian Armed
Forces, Pavletic said.
It was agreed that the army should act in line with the law and the
Constitution, with the clearly set objective of protecting the
integrity of the Croatian state.
"In the current situation, speculations caused by political
reasons and petty politics or lack of information, according to
which individuals in the Croatian Army would take action in the
post-election period should they be dissatisfied with election
results, are unrealistic", said Pavletic.
Defence Minister Pavao Miljavac told reporters the army would stay
within its constitutional obligations and laws in the pre- and
post-election time, performing its tasks and respecting the chain
of command.
"The armed forces will fully respect the results of the
parliamentary election," said the Defence Minister.
