HDZ INITIATES APPLICATION OF CONSTITUTIONAL LAW ON TEMPORARY

ZAGREB, Nov 25 (Hina) - The Presidency of the ruling Croatian democratic Union (HDZ) on Thursday's session unanimously decided to suggest to the Croatian Government to begin proceedings for introducing the institute of temporary disability of the President of the Republic to perform his duties. Following talks with the President's doctors' consultation, Prime Minister Zlatko Matesa will forward the motion to the Constitutional Court, HDZ vice-president mate Granic told reporters after the party Presidency session. The Government scheduled an extraordinary session for 6pm Thursday, at which it will activate the application of the Constitutional Law on temporary disability, Granic said. He pointed out members of the HDZ Presidency had been unanimous in reaching the decision which is based on reports about President Tudjman's health condition and medical treatments. Granic said participants of the session did not tackle the issue of date of parliamentary elections, but the issue will be a subject of talks very soon. The HDZ Presidency congratulated MPs in both houses of Parliament who backed the Constitutional Law. This has removed a constitutional void, protected the dignity of the President and enabled the carrying out of a stable internal and foreign policy, Granic stressed. (hina) lml mm
