ZAGREB, Nov 5 (Hina) - All houses in two Croatian counties in the Danube region, which are included in the 1999 programme of reconstruction, should be completed by summer 2000, whereas houses in other counties should be completed by
September next year, said Deputy Minister of Development, Immigration and Reconstruction, Ljudevit Erceg on Friday. Erceg said this at a meeting with the administrative council of the Croatian Returnees' Association (ZPH). Erceg said bids were invited and contractors were selected for the reconstruction of 1,450 houses in Vukovar-Srijem County and another 840 houses in Osijek-Baranja County, whereas contractors for other areas are being sought. Erceg said bids were invited and contractors were selected for the
reconstruction of 1,450 houses in Vukovar-Srijem County and
another 840 houses in Osijek-Baranja County, whereas contractors
for other areas are being sought.
Herceg informed members of the ZPH administrative board that funds
for the reconstruction of houses from the I to III damage category
would be paid between November 20 i 25. A total of 5.5 million kuna
have been secured for that purpose for the Danube region, and
another 3.5 million kuna for other counties. Furniture for
reconstructed homes should be delivered within a month, Herceg said
adding 25,000 reconstructed houses have been furnished so far.
The head of the Government Office for Displaced People, Returnees
and Refugees, Lovre Pejkovic, informed the ZPH that the listing of
apartments in Vukovar has been finished and that a detailed
analysis will soon be announced by Development Minister Jure
Radic.
The House of Counties will next Wednesday discuss changes to the Law
on the Status of Displaced Persons and Refugees, which envisage a
six-month refugee status.
Pejkovic informed the Office was still caring for 48,298 displaced
people, including 38,048 from the Danube region and 10,250 from
areas liberated in "Flash" and "Storm" operations, whose houses
have still not been repaired.
The Office also cares for 27,008 refugees from Bosnia-Herzegovina
and 15,801 returnees.
