UN MISSION SATISFIED WITH EMPLOYMENT OF POLICE IN SOUTHWEST BH

LIVNO, Oct 21 (Hina) - Spokesman for the United nations Mission to the Bihac and Banja Luka area, Allun Roberts, said in Livno on Thursday that the employment of police officers -- members of minority ethnic communities -- into the joint multi-ethnic police of the Herzeg-Bosnian Canton, was proceeding very well. In the first phase 17 police officers had to be hired in Drvar, Kupres and Grahovo: nine Serbs in Drvar and six in Grahovo, as well as two Bosniaks (Moslems) in Kupres. In Drvar seven were employed because two gave up for personal reasons. In Grahovo only one Serb police officer is working, while five gave up because of new accommodation they were provided with through the Interior Ministry, Roberts said, adding it was not the Ministry's fault that gave up from the jobs. The UN and the International Police force (IPTF) hold that the entire process of employing police officers -- members of minority ethnic groups -- in the Herzeg-Bosnian Canton, is proceeding well, Roberts said. He expressed satisfaction with the increased number of school children of Serb returnees to the Drvar municipality attending classes in Drvar with no difficulties. (hina) lml mm
