STRASBOURG, Nov 4 (Hina) - The Council of Europe's Ministerial
Council ended its regular session Thursday which was also attended
by a Croatian delegation headed by Foreign Minister Mate Granic.
The session focused on the situation in Kosovo, the Stability pact
for the South-East of Europe , the situation in Yugoslavia and
Montenegro, as well as the crisis in Chechnya.
Taking part in the discussion, Granic said Croatia supported the
Stability Pact and would actively participate in the work of all its
task forces, especially in projects it was interested in or had
motioned.
Like most participants of the session, Granic said certain progress
had been achieved in solving the Kosovo crisis, but that the
situation was "very difficult and very complicated".
Croatia supports the democratic changes in Montenegro, Granic
said.
Croatia believes that they will help resolve the most recent
outstanding issues in the normalisation of relations with
Yugoslavia, including the issue of the Croatian minority in
Yugoslavia succession issues and a permanent solution to the issue
of Croatia's southernmost peninsula of Prevlaka, to which
Yugoslavia has territorial pretensions.
Granic reiterated an invite to Council of Europe observers to be
present at parliamentary elections which will take place on
December 22.
"Only one issue is now current in the Council of Europe," Granic
told Croatian reporters after the session. "About expectations
that the Croatian Government would do everything to ensure free and
fair elections and that this would be significant for Croatia's
credibility".
