graduate schools on average takes five years. Lectures at university colleges are given during eight or more semesters, while lectures at the professional schools are given usually during four or six semesters.
ZAGREB, Nov 1 (Hina) - At the moment there are 39,448 undergraduates
enrolled at Zagreb University. They graduate from university
colleges on average after seven years of studying, while the
studying at professional graduate schools on average takes five
years. Lectures at university colleges are given during eight or
more semesters, while lectures at the professional schools are
given usually during four or six semesters.#L#
According to figures released by Science and Technology Ministry,
every third enrolled student finishes the college he/she enters.
Students of university colleges make better success than students
at professional colleges.
The best results are achieved by undergraduates at the School of
Medicine and the School of Electrical Engineering and Information
Science.
A biggest number of students who give up university education are
among undergraduates at Faculty of Philosophy, the Faculty of
Sciences as well of the College of Physical Education.
In the last two years, would-be students showed the greatest
interest in studying at Law School or College of Economics.
Their interest was falling in studying at technical and technology
faculties.
Out of 39,448 undergraduates at Zagreb University, 25,928 study
with financial assistance given by the Science and Technology
Ministry, while over 9,000 students pay their college fees.
The tuition fee is between 4,500 and 7,500 kuna (625 to 1040 US
dollars) for one year depending on the college.
The University of Zagreb includes 29 colleges, three academies of
arts, one pedagogical academy.
It was established in 1669 under a decree of the then Hungarian-
Croatian King, Leopold I. The assembly of the Croatian Kingdom
endorsed Leopold's decision on November 3, 1671. Therefore,
November 3 is marked as Zagreb University Day.
