Slovene economic relations as positive.#L#
There are also good prospects of settling remaining open issues in
this sector, said Mimica in an interview with the Slovene news
agency, STA.
The Croatian official, who attended a two-day regional business
conference in Bled, Slovenia, told the STA that Slovenia was still
one of three most important trading partners of his country.
Commenting of Slovene Premier Janez Drnovsek's suggestion that
some south-eastern European countries may be included in the CEFTA
(Central European Free Trade Agreement), Mimica said this proposal
was similar to stands of the Croatian Government. Such acts could
help accomplish economic objectives of the Stability Pact better
than current ideas coming from Brussels.
These ideas have not yet been formalised but they are on the track of
forming some regional organisation for free trade or even a customs
union in the south-east of Europe, Mimica said adding that such
connection exclusively among southeastern European countries
would lead to the region's economic isolation instead of tying it
with the whole of Europe. CEFTA, on the other hand, can assist in
such integration, the Croatian official maintained.
Mimica applauded the European Union's decision to postpone an
embargo on the export of meat and meat products from Slovenia. He
added Croatia would respect the decision made in Brussels as his
country applies European veterinary regulations.
Mimica said Croatia would like that problems of Croatian depositors
with the Ljubljanska Bank and the issue of the nuclear power plant
Krsko be settled as soon as possible adding that there were two ways
to settle them - agreement or arbitration.
