SLAVONSKI BROD, Oct 20 (Hina) - A commission for implementing the
Croatian-Bosnian agreement on border crossings on Wednesday
decided to open a temporary ferry border crossing over the Sava
river about ten kilometres west of Slavonski Brod (Croatia) and
Bosanski Brod (Bosnia-Herzegovina).
The ferry service between the villages of Migalovci in Croatia and
Sijekovci in Bosnia should start operating by November 15 at the
latest, it was agreed at today's meeting in Slavonski Brod.
The meeting was attended by representatives from the ministries of
economy, interior affairs and customs services from Croatia,
Bosnia-Herzegovina, and Republika Srpska as well as by
representatives from the Office of the High Representative and an
association of returnees from the northern Bosnian region of
Posavina.
The commission adopted the decision because there is not a single
bridge border crossing over the Sava from Zupanja to Stara
Gradiska. Another reason for the decision is that traffic on all
crossings is too dense and that reconstruction works on the bridge
near Slavonski Brod linking Croatia with Bosnia will not be
completed soon.
