QUESTION TIME HELD AT HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES WEDNESDAY

ZAGREB, Oct 20 (Hina) - The tax system will be different as soon as there is no need for reconstruction, when war damage is removed and when there is no longer a need to care for victims of the Homeland War on which almost one quarter of the government budget is being utilised, Prime Minister said at the Croatian National Parliament House of Representatives Wednesday. Matesa was replying to a question posed by Marin Jurjevic of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) who wondered whether the Government knew how much prices influenced the tax system, considering the fact that some Croatian products were less expensive abroad than they are in Croatia. Matesa said sometimes export companies have different prices for the domestic and foreign markets, and export prices were an issue of business policy. Indemnities set aside from the government budget for political prisoners this year are 100 million kuna (about US$14.2 million), out of which 40 million kuna (US$5.7 million) was being paid based on the days spent in prison. So far some 8,000 political prisoners received a quarter of indemnation they have a right to, the second quarter is to be paid in the next several days and the entire amount will be paid by the end of the year, Labour and Social Welfare Minister Joso Skara said in reply to an MP's question.
