PAVLOVIC: BONDS FOR ZAGREB-GORICAN MOTORWAY WON'T BE ISSUED

ZAGREB-GORICAN MOTORWAY WON'T BE ISSUED ZAGREB, Oct 14 (Hina) - Croatia's Transport Minister Ivan Pavlovic on Thursday refuted claims released in yesterday's statement by the Trans-European motorway company's (TEA) administration regarding the arrival of members of the Croatian Army's 33rd brigade and the continuation of works on a section of the Zagreb-Gorican (border with Hungary) highway. According to the statement published by TEA, which is the concession holder of that motorway, only the concession holder is authorised to give orders for works on the motorway for which it holds concession, and that so far the TEA has not, until the solution of the question of financing, given orders for the resumption of the construction. ZAGREB, Oct 14 (Hina) - Croatia's Transport Minister Ivan Pavlovic on Thursday refuted claims released in yesterday's statement by the Trans-European motorway company's (TEA) administration regarding the arrival of members of the Croatian Army's 33rd brigade and the continuation of works on a section of the Zagreb-Gorican (border with Hungary) highway. According to the statement published by TEA, which is the concession holder of that motorway, only the concession holder is authorised to give orders for works on the motorway for which it holds concession, and that so far the TEA has not, until the solution of the question of financing, given orders for the resumption of the construction. TEA maintains that the arrival of the Croatian Army's 33rd brigade soldiers at the construction site and the continuation of the building "at anybody's initiative presents an act contrary to concluded contracts and laws." I think that in the beginning of the contract there is a paragraph saying that the Croatian Army can be used on certain sections (of the motorway under construction). Premier Zlatko Matesa has used this right from the contract," Minister Pavlovic said after Thursday's session of the Government. Responding to reporters' question, Pavlovic said no bonds would be issued for the continuation of building the motorway, although TEA has proposed it. This company has suggested that bonds, totally valued 200 million euro on international markets, with Croatian Government's guarantees, should be issued in order that the completion of the Zagreb-Gorican Motorway can be covered financially. Asked how the financial construction might be closed, Pavlovic answered this issue was being now discussed with the TEA, and the obligation of TEA is to find financial means, but stands on this matter differ. Italy's Astaldi has the 51 percent of shares of the TEA company - a firm for development, construction and management of the Zagreb- Gorican motorway - while th Croatia holds the rest. (hina) jn ms
