ZAGREB, Oct 14 (Hina) - The Croatian National Bank (HNB) on Thursday
issued a statement welcoming the news that this year's Nobel prize
winner for economy is Professor Robert Mundell. #L#
The HNB expresses satisfaction not only because of the important
scientific work of this respected analyst of monetary, fiscal, and
exchange rate policies, but also because of the fact that Mundell,
who teaches at New York's Columbia University, has been
collaborating with the HNB.
Mundell participated in all five Dubrovnik international
conferences on economies in transition as a member of a scientific
committee and active participant. He also accepted the role of a co-
editor-in-chief of the Zagreb Journal of Economics, the HNB
statement said.
Professor Mundell demonstrated his friendship toward Croatia by
attending the first Dubrovnik conference in 1995, a year when
shells were still falling on Dubrovnik airport. With this act he
prompted other distinguished guests to attend the conference.
The HNB is indebted to Mundell for his regular and tireless
participation in all subsequent gatherings and debates and his
contribution to Croatia's reputation in the world, especially in
scientific circles.
