OSIJEK OSIJEK, Sept 28 (Hina) - Hungarian President Arpad Goenz on Tuesday opened the Educational Cultural Centre of Hungarians in Croatia in the eastern town of Osijek. In the Centre, members of the Hungarian national minority will
receive education in their mother language, and nurture their culture. The building of the Centre was initiated by the Democratic Union of Hungarians of Croatia, and was financed by the Croatian Government with US$3.1 million. The Osijek-based Centre is currently attended by 44 pupils from the first grade of elementary to the third grade of secondary school. Classes are held according to the Croatian educational programme, in Hungarian. A kindergarten will open on 1 October. Speaking about the Centre's importance, the Hungarian President

nurtured to mutual satisfaction.
Croatian Premier Zlatko Matesa said the Croatian Centre in Budapest
and the Educational Cultural Centre of Hungarians in Croatia were
proof of the importance the two countries ascribe to national
minorities.
Present at the opening were also Croatia's Foreign Minister Mate
Granic, Education and Sports Minister Bozidar Pugelnik, and MP
Sandor Jakabi.
