SARAJEVO, Sept 28 (Hina) - The recent arrest of an Islamist
terrorist, Mehrez Amdouni, who travelled with Bosnia-
Herzegovina's passport, is the biggest possible blow to this
country which can no more avoid the image of an asylum for
terrorists, said Ante Jelavic, the chairman of three-member
Bosnian Presidency.
In an interview which this Bosnian Croat member of the Presidency
gave to Tuesday's issue of the "Oslobodjenje" newspaper, Jelavic
announced that on the coming session of the Bosnian Presidency he
would request a discussion on the entire security situation in
Bosnia and a report on measures taken for the revision of
citizenship papers issued during the war.
Jelavic pointed to the problem that intelligence and security
services in the country are still under control of political
parties citing examples "from the Moslem (Bosniak) AID to Croat
SNS".
He warned that such bodies use services of organised criminal bands
in order to achieve their goals, while the presence of Majahedeen
helps create prerequisites for terrorism.
"I have been proposing for long time that these services should be
integrated and put under control of the parliament but this is
obviously a big problem for some from the international community
who do not want to raise that question. The Croat side is ready to
enter a process of integration and transparent activities of
intelligence and security services," Jelavic said.
He also accentuated the readiness of Bosnian Croats to full
cooperate with the Hague-based International War Crimes Tribunal
(ICTY) regardless of how painful it may be for them, as the
responsibility for crimes lies with individuals and not with
peoples.
For Jelavic, it is necessary to apply the same standard for all
three sides in Bosnia as it was precondition for a lasting peace in
the country.
