OSIJEK TO INVESTIGATE INTO CLAIMS BY SERB ASYLUM SEEKERS OSIJEK, Aug 31 (Hina) - Serbs leaving Croatia are not political but economic emigrants, leaders of the eastern Croatian Osijek-Baranja County on Tuesday told a Danish delegation
on visit to Osijek. The delegation, led by Hanna Munk, an advisor on east-European relations of the Danish Immigration Office, visited the Croatian Danube River region to investigate into the veracity of reports by Croatian Serbs seeking asylum in Denmark saying they were discriminated against and could not live in Croatia. County Prefect Branimir Glavas and his deputy Bosko Jancic said during the meeting that "no one should leave Croatia for political reasons". A proof of this is a stable security and political situation. The economic situation, however, is difficult and the unemployment rate is high, but "it affects all Croatian citizens regardless of their nationality", said Glavas.(hina) jn rml
