The Granic-Albright talks were held at the end of Albright's
meeting with foreign ministers of countries signatories to the
Stability Pact for Southeast Europe.
Croatia's current dispute with The Hague Tribunal was the central
topic of the talks.
The U.S. State Secretary reiterated America's acceptance of the
need to implement the procedure relative to the extradition of war
crimes suspect Mladen Naletilic Tuta as stipulated by Croatian
legislation.
Albright said the U.S. however was concerned with the dynamics of
Croatia's cooperation with The Hague Tribunal so far.
During talks, Albright conveyed the American Government's
gratitude for Croatia's constructive contribution and position at
the time of the Kosovo crisis.
Washington sees Croatia as an important factor of stability in the
region, the U.S. State Secretary said, adding Croatia was yet to
play its full role in Europe and Euro-Atlantic integration. One of
the key factors in doing so will be the holding of fair and free
elections, she concluded.
